Ants have elbowed antennae, a pinched waist, and forewings noticeably longer than the hind pair. Discarded wings on a windowsill in spring are worth a photograph rather than a vacuum.
Reaction patterns vary enormously between individuals, and a bite says almost nothing reliable about what caused it. Physical evidence — an insect, cast skins, droppings, staining — is what identifies a problem. If someone diagnoses bed bugs from a description of bites alone, that's a guess.
